Hello everyone,
I am back, so sorry it took me so long.
The Golden Gansey was finished at the end of June and received by its happy owner in August - it was a friend delivering to a friend kind of delivery (which led to a few anxious moments for me). Then the lady who commissioned the Gansey had such a busy schedule that it took a while for her to be able to collect her Gansey. At the end of all that, I am glad to say, she is really pleased with it.
She wanted a snuggly, baggy, long Gansey and to quote her
‘I have my Gansey and it is beautiful, It fits like a glove
Thank you.’
The pictures below chart the commission, from design sketch, yarn choice, finished images, and then a happy owner.

How long has it taken?
In the end, it took almost three months of monogamous knitting to finish the Gansey. I must admit, it was a wonderful feeling getting it off the needles and onto the jumper board. Not to mention it had been getting a little warm under almost 1.5kg of dense woolliness, thank goodness for table tops, which saved me from having the whole thing in my lap the entire time. Needless to say, as soon as the Gansey was off the needles the weather cooled down…
I must confess I gave up trying to track the hours…
Further Reading
At the bottom of this post there are a few links to some books for further reading about Gansey knitting, history and construction. They are affiliate links so I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you, and you will be supporting small independent bookshops in the UK.
Short but hopefully sweet this time, I will be back soon. My aim is to write a series of posts to take you through the various key components of knitting a Gansey for yourself.
Take care, everyone, until next time.

Oh what a beauty! I am someone who has decided not to knit anything (apart from socks) with any yarn thinner than aran! I cannot imagine how long that took. BRAVO!
It's incredible, Tracy. Thank you for sharing it-- I've been looking forward to it.
